Life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayer slip down on the priority list. However, just like everything else that’s worth having, it requires commitment and discipline. This is where the creation of the habit of praying comes into. It provides the structure and accountability needed to ensure that we’re in contact with God on a an ongoing basis.

How do you start? It’s the first thing to do is decide what time of day is the most suitable time to pray. Some people like to start their day by praying, while others find it easier to pray at night before getting to bed. Experiment and see what works best for you.

Once you’ve determined the best time to pray You can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:

Begin by addressing God to ask for his presence while you read and pray.

Read a passage from the Bible and then meditate on the passage. This can be accomplished by reading the passage three to four times, or listing anything it tells you about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to follow or promises to make.

Your prayer should be structured by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your needs and pressing concerns and then take time to sit in the presence of God.

The great thing about praying is that it can be adapted to fit your needs. Many people might only have a few minutes to spare and others could have an hours or longer. It’s important that you make this a regular element of your day-to-day routine. And if you miss a day or two, don’t sweat it! Just get back on track the following day.

A daily prayer practice is a great way to start your new year off with a new feeling of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s a powerful way to start your day, placing your attention upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.

Another way to increase your prayer routine is to create a more engaging. Instead of just reciting words, you should try to connect with God in a deeper way. Use your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and put yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.

It is also possible to incorporate different types prayers into your routine. For example, try silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even journaling your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add variety to your spiritual routine.

One of the best methods to keep yourself motivated and on track with your prayer practice is by sharing the practice with others. Find a partner in accountability, a friend or family member who will be checking on you regularly and help you to adhere to your schedule. They could even join you in prayers and share their own experiences.

Remember, the goal of daily prayer is to strengthen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned to His plan. It’s not about achieving perfection or following the strict rules, it’s about being intentional and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. Therefore, make the effort to discover a prayer practice that is a good fit for you and set it as a priority in your day-to-day life.
