The most challenging part of prayer is making it a constant element of our daily lives. With a time and planning it is possible to create a prayer routine that works for you and your schedule. And the greatest part is that you get to customize it to match your own personality and spiritual tradition.

Let’s be real, life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayer slide off the priority list. However, just like everything else worth having, it requires commitment and discipline. This is where establishing a prayer routine comes in. It gives the structure and accountability needed to make sure we are connected to God on a a regular basis.

So, how do you begin? It’s the first thing to do is decide the time of day that works best for you to pray. Some people like to start their day by praying, while others find it easier to pray at night before going to bed. Test and see which method works best for you.

After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayers:

Begin by talking to God and asking for his blessing while you read and pray.

Read a passage from the Bible and reflect on it for a while. This can be accomplished by reading the passage three to four times, or listing everything it reveals about yourself, or the examples you can follow, instructions to obey or promises to keep.

Make your prayer a ritual by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Prayerfully address your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to enjoy God’s presence.

The beauty of the prayer time routine is that it is customizable to suit your needs. Many people might only have just a few minutes, while others may have a half an hours or longer. The key is to make it a constant element of your day-to-day routine. If you fall off the occasional day or two, don’t sweat it! Get back on track the next day.

An everyday prayer practice is a wonderful opportunity to begin this new year feeling a fresh feeling of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s an effective way to start your day, keeping your eyes to the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.

Another way to enhance your prayer routine is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of reciting the phrases, try engaging with God in a deeper way. Use your imagination and try to visualize the scenes in the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and place yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.

Try incorporating different forms in your prayer day-to-day routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing down your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.

One of the most effective ways to remain engaged and focused on your daily prayer routine is sharing it with other people. Find a accountability partner, a friend or family member who will check in with you and encourage you to keep to your schedule. They may even join you in prayer and share their own experiences.

Remember, the goal of a daily prayer practice is to strengthen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to a strict set of guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your spiritual life. Take the time to create a routine of prayer that works for you and set it as a priority in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed by how much difference it makes for your spiritual development as well as overall wellbeing.
