The most challenging aspect of prayer is making it a constant part of our life. But with a little amount of planning and effort, you can create an effective prayer schedule that works with your lifestyle and schedule. And the greatest part is that you are able to modify it to fit your personality and religious tradition.
Let’s be real, life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayers slip down on the list of priorities. Like everything else that’s worth being a part of, it requires effort and discipline. That’s where developing a prayer routine comes in. It helps us establish a an order and accountability to make sure we are in contact with God on a an ongoing basis.
So, how do you start? First, you must decide what time of day is the most suitable time to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer, and others prefer to pray before going to getting to bed. Test and see what works for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer then you can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for prayer in the morning:
Begin by talking to God, ask for his help as you read and pray.
Take a chapter from the Bible and reflect on the passage. This can be done by reading the passage three to four times, or listing the things it says about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to follow or promises to keep.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your immediate needs and worries and then take time to sit in the presence of God.
The great thing about a prayer routine is that it can be adapted to fit your needs. For some, you may have only some minutes and others could be able to devote a whole hours or longer. It’s important that you make this a constant element of your day-to-day routine. If you don’t make it through a day or two Don’t be concerned! You can get back on track for the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is a great method to begin this new year feeling a fresh sense of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by putting your focus upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.
Another way to enhance your prayer time is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of reciting the phrases, try engaging with God on a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to visualize the scenes in the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and place yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.
You can also try incorporating various forms of prayer into your day-to-day routine. For example, try a silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing down your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the best ways to stay focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing your practice with others. Find a accountability partner either a close friend or family member who can check on you regularly and help you to adhere to your schedule. They could even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
Rememberthat the purpose of daily prayer is to deepen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line with His will. It’s not about achieving perfection or following an unwritten set of guidelines, but rather being deliberate and consistent in your spiritual life. So, take the time to find a prayer routine that is a good fit for you and incorporate it in your daily life. You’ll be amazed at the impact it has for your spiritual development and overall health.
