The most difficult aspect of prayer is to make it a regular part of our daily life. With a bit of planning and effort, you can create your own prayer routine that is suitable for you and your time. And the best part is, you get to customize the ritual to suit your personal preferences and religious tradition.

Life can be busy and it’s easy for prayer to slip down on the list of priorities. But just like anything else worth having, it requires dedication and discipline. This is where establishing a prayer routine comes in. It gives an order and accountability to ensure we’re in contact with God on a a regular basis.

So, how do you get started? The first step is to decide the time of day that works best for you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer, while others find it easier to pray at night before getting to bed. Test and see what works for you.

Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:

Begin by talking to God to ask for his presence as you read and meditate.

Read a passage from the Bible and reflect on the passage. It can be done by reading it three to four times, or listing the things it says about yourself or examples to follow, commands to obey , or promises to make.

Your prayer should be structured by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Make a prayer for your immediate needs and worries as well as taking time to be in God’s presence.

The beauty of the prayer time routine is that it is customizable to fit your needs. For some, you may have only some minutes, while others may have an time or even more. The trick is to make it a consistent part of your routine. If you don’t make it through one or two days, don’t sweat it! Get back on track for the next day.

The practice of daily prayer is a great way to start your new year off with a fresh sense of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by keeping your eyes upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned in accordance with His plan.

Another way to enhance your prayer routine is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of reciting the words, you should try to connect with God at a deeper level. Try using your imagination to imagine the scenes that are described in the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.

It is also possible to incorporate different types prayers into your daily routine. For instance, you can try silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing your prayers. This will prevent your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.

One of the most effective methods to keep yourself motivated and on track with your prayer practice is by sharing the practice with other people. Find a partner in accountability, a friend or family member who can check on you regularly and help you to keep to your schedule. They could even be a part of your prayers and share their own experiences.

Remember, the goal of a daily prayer practice is to deepen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions to His plan. It’s not about achieving perfection or adhering to an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being intentional and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. Take the time to discover a prayer practice that works for you and set it as a priority within your everyday life.
