Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayer slide off the priority list. But just like anything else worth having, it requires commitment and discipline. This is where establishing the habit of praying comes into. It gives structure and accountability to ensure that we’re connecting with the divine on regularly.

So, how do you start? The first step is to decide the time of day that is the most suitable time to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer, while others find it easier to pray before going to getting to bed. Experiment and see which method works best for you.

Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer, you can start to build your routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayers:

Begin by talking to God and asking for his help as you read and meditate.

Read a passage from the Bible and reflect on the passage. It can be done by reading the passage three to four times, or writing down anything it tells you about yourself or guidelines to follow or promises to claim.

Your prayer should be structured by offering adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Pray for your needs and pressing concerns and then take time to enjoy God’s presence.

The beauty of a prayer routine is that it is customizable to suit your needs. For some, you may have only some minutes while others might have a half an hour or more. The key is to make it a regular part of your daily routine. If you fall off a day or two, don’t sweat it! Get back on track the next day.

The practice of daily prayer is a great method to begin the new year with a renewed feeling of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by putting your focus to the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.

Another way to increase your prayer time is to make it more engaging. Instead of just reciting words, try to engage with God at a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described by the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character, and put yourself in their position. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.

You can also try incorporating different forms of prayer into your daily routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.

One of the best ways to stay focused and in line with your prayer practice is by sharing your practice with other people. Find a partner in accountability, a family member or friend member who will be checking in with you and encourage you to stick to your schedule. They can even join you in prayer and share their personal experiences.

The goal of a regular prayer routine is to increase your connection with God and align your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfectionism or following an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being deliberate and consistent in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to discover a prayer practice that works for you and make it a priority in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed at how much difference it makes for your spiritual development and overall well-being.
