Are you willing to take your spiritual life to the next level? One of the best ways to accomplish this is by developing a daily prayer practice.
Consider it your spiritual exercise, similar to as you workout to stay in shape, a daily prayer practice can keep your soul strong and in tune with the divine.
The most challenging part of prayer is to make it a regular element of our daily life. However, with a bit of planning and effort it is possible to create your own prayer routine that is suitable with your lifestyle and schedule. And the best part is, you are able to modify it to match your own personality and spiritual tradition.
It’s true that life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayer get lost on the list of priorities. However, just like everything else worth having, it requires dedication and discipline. That’s where developing the habit of praying comes into. It gives the structure and accountability needed to ensure we’re in contact with God on a a regular basis.
So, how do you begin? First, you must figure out which time of the day works best for you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day by praying, while others find it easier to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Try it out and discover which method works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayers:
Begin by talking to God, ask for his presence as you read and meditate.
Go through a section of the Bible and then meditate on it for a while. This can be accomplished by reading it three to four times, or listing the things it says about yourself, examples to follow, commands to follow or promises to keep.
Make your prayer a ritual by praying for adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Pray for your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to be in God’s presence.
The great thing about a prayer routine is that it can be adapted to suit your needs. Some people may only have some minutes and others could be able to devote a whole hour or more. The key is that you make this a regular part of your routine. If you fall off a day or two do not fret! You can get back on track for the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is a great way to start this new year feeling a renewed sense of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s an effective way to begin your day by putting your focus upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.
Another way to enhance your prayer time is to make it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, try to engage with God in a deeper way. Use your imagination and try to picture the scenes described within the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.
It is also possible to incorporate different forms of prayer into your routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even journaling your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the best methods to keep yourself focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing your practice with others. Find a partner in accountability either a close friend or family member who can check on you regularly and help you to keep to your daily routine. They could even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
Remember, the goal of a daily prayer practice is to increase your connection with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfection or following the strict rules, it’s about being intentional and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. So, take the time to create a routine of prayer that works for you and incorporate it in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make for your spiritual development and overall well-being.
