It’s true that life is hectic and it’s easy for prayer to slip down on the priority list. However, just like everything else that’s worth being a part of, it requires effort and discipline. This is where establishing the habit of praying comes into. It gives structure and accountability to ensure we’re connecting with the divine on regularly.
How do you get started? The first step is to figure out which time of the day works best for you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day by praying, while others prefer to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Try it out and discover what works best for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for prayer in the morning:
Begin by addressing God to ask for his blessing while you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and then meditate on the passage. This can be accomplished by reading it three to four times, or listing the things it says about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to claim.
Your prayer should be structured by offering adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Prayerfully address your urgent needs and concerns and then take time to sit in the presence of God.
The best thing about praying is that it can be adapted to suit your needs. Some people may only have a few minutes to spare and others could have an time or even more. It’s important that you make this a constant part of your daily routine. If you don’t make it through one or two days Don’t be concerned! Just get back on track the following day.
A daily prayer practice is a great opportunity to begin your new year off with a fresh feeling of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful method to start your day, putting your focus to the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.
Another way to enhance your prayer routine is to make it more interactive. Instead of just reciting phrases, try engaging with God at a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to visualize the scenes within the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters, and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This will make your prayer time more meaningful and personal.
It is also possible to incorporate different types of prayer into your day-to-day routine. For example, try a silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing down your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the best ways to stay motivated and on track with your daily prayer routine is sharing your practice with others. Find a accountability partner, a family member or friend member who can check in with you and help you to keep to your schedule. They could even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of a regular prayer routine is to strengthen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions to His plan. It’s not about perfection or adhering to a strict set of guidelines, but rather being consistent and deliberate in your life of faith. Take the time to find a prayer routine that works for you and incorporate it in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed by how much difference it makes on your spiritual growth and overall well-being.
