However, just like everything other thing worth being a part of, it requires commitment and discipline. This is where establishing an effective prayer schedule comes in. It gives structure and accountability to make sure we are connected to God on a regularly.
How do you begin? The first step is to determine what time of day is most conducive to you to pray. Some people like to start their day with prayer, and others prefer to pray at night before bed. Test and see what works for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayers:
Begin by addressing God to ask for his help while you read and pray.
Go through a section of the Bible and reflect on the passage. It can be done by reading it three to four times, or writing down anything it tells you about yourself, examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to keep.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration as well as petition and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your needs and pressing concerns and then take time to sit in the presence of God.
The best thing about the prayer time routine is that it’s customizable to fit your needs. Some people may only have some minutes while others might be able to devote a whole time or even more. The key is that you make this a constant part of your routine. If you fall off one or two days do not fret! You can get back on track the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a great opportunity to begin your new year off with a renewed feeling of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful method to start your day, keeping your eyes upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer routine is to make it more interactive. Instead of reciting the phrases, try engaging with God at a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to visualize the scenes within the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and place yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.
You can also try incorporating various forms prayers into your daily routine. For instance, you can try silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing down your prayers. This will keep your prayer practice from becoming repetitive and provide variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the most effective ways to remain engaged and focused on your prayer practice is by sharing the practice with other people. Find a accountability partner, a friend or family member who will be checking in with you and encourage you to stick to your routine. They may even be a part of your prayers and share their own experiences.
The goal of a regular prayer routine is to increase your connection with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned with His will. It’s not about perfection or adhering to an unwritten set of guidelines, but rather being deliberate and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. Take the time to find a prayer routine that works for you and incorporate it in your daily life. You’ll be amazed at the impact it has in your spiritual growth and overall health.
