Think of it as your spiritual exercise, similar to as you workout to stay fit, an everyday prayer routine can keep your soul strong and in tune with the divine.
The most difficult aspect of prayer is making it a constant element of our daily life. But with a little amount of planning and effort you can develop a prayer routine that works for you and your schedule. And the best part is, you get to customize the ritual to suit your personal preferences and your spiritual beliefs.
Life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayers slip down on the priority list. However, just like everything other thing worth having, it takes effort and discipline. This is where establishing the habit of praying comes into. It provides an order and accountability to ensure that we’re connecting with the divine on a regular basis.
How do you start? It’s the first thing to do is figure out which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer and others prefer to pray before going to bed. Experiment and see what works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray, you can start to build your routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayer:
Begin by talking to God to ask for his blessing while you read and pray.
Take a chapter from the Bible and meditate on it. It can be done by reading it three to four times, or writing down the things it says about yourself or examples to follow, commands to follow or promises to make.
Your prayer should be structured by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Prayerfully address your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to be in God’s presence.
The best thing about a prayer routine is that it is customizable to suit your needs. Some people may only have a few minutes to spare while others might have an time or even more. The trick is to make it a constant part of your daily routine. If you fall off one or two days Don’t be concerned! You can get back on track the following day.
An everyday prayer practice is a great way to start the new year with a renewed sense of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s an effective way to start your day, keeping your eyes upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plan.
Another way to enhance your prayer routine is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of reciting the words, you should try to connect with God on a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters, and put yourself in their position. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating various forms prayers into your day-to-day routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing down your prayers. This will prevent your prayer practice from becoming repetitive and provide some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the most effective methods to keep yourself focused and in line with your daily prayers is sharing your practice with others. Find an accountability partner, a friend or family member who can check on you regularly and help you to adhere to your routine. They could even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of a regular prayer routine is to increase your connection with God and align your thoughts and actions with His will. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to an unwritten set of guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your spiritual life. Take the time to create a routine of prayer that is a good fit for you and incorporate it in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed at how much difference it makes for your spiritual development and overall well-being.
