Are you willing to take your spirituality to the next level? One of the most effective ways to do that is to establish a regular prayer practice.
Think of it as your spiritual workout. Just as you workout to keep in shape. an everyday prayer routine keeps your soul healthy and in tune with the Divine.
The most difficult aspect of praying is to make it a regular part of our daily life. With a time and planning you can develop a prayer routine that works for you and your time. And the most appealing part is that you get to customize it to match your own personality and spiritual tradition.
Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayer get lost on the list of priorities. Like everything else that’s worth being a part of, it requires commitment and discipline. This is where the creation of the habit of praying comes into. It provides an order and accountability to ensure that we’re in contact with God on a an ongoing basis.
So, how do you begin? First, you must decide what time of day works best for you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer, and others prefer to pray in the evening before going to bed. Experiment and see which method works best for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray, you can start to build your routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for prayer in the morning:
Begin by approaching God to ask for his help as you read and meditate.
Go through a section of the Bible and then meditate on the passage. This can be accomplished by reading it three to four times, or listing the things it says about yourself, or guidelines to obey , or promises to make.
Make your prayer a ritual by praying for adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to enjoy God’s presence.
The best thing about the prayer time routine is that it can be adapted to meet your requirements. Some people may only have some minutes, while others may have a half an hour or more. The key is that you make this a regular part of your routine. If you don’t make it through a day or two, don’t sweat it! Get back on track for the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a great way to start your new year off with a fresh feeling of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s an effective way to start your day, putting your focus on the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.
Another way to enhance your prayer time is to make it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting phrases, try engaging with God at a deeper level. Try using your imagination to picture the scenes described by the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and put yourself in their position. This will make your prayer time more meaningful and personal.
You can also try incorporating different forms of prayer into your routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even journaling your prayers. This will prevent your prayer practice from becoming repetitive and provide variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to stay focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing your practice with others. Find a partner in accountability either a close friend or family member who will be checking in with you and help you to keep to your daily routine. They could even be a part of your prayers and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of daily prayer is to strengthen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line in accordance with His plans. It’s not about achieving perfection or following the strict guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to discover a prayer practice that you enjoy and make it a priority in your daily life. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
