The most challenging part of prayer is making it a constant part of our lives. However, with a time and planning, you can create your own prayer routine that is suitable for you and your time. The greatest part is that you can customize it to match your own personality and spiritual tradition.

Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy for prayer to slide off the priority list. But just like anything else that’s worth having, it requires effort and discipline. That’s where developing a prayer routine comes in. It provides an order and accountability to ensure we’re in contact with God on a regularly.

So, how do you start? It’s the first thing to do is decide the time of day that works best for you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day by praying, while others find it easier to pray at night before bed. Experiment and see which method works best for you.

Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray, you can start building your daily routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for prayer in the morning:

Begin by addressing God and asking for his presence as you read and meditate.

Take a chapter from the Bible and then meditate on it. This can be done by reading it three to four times, or writing down the things it says about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to keep.

Your prayer should be structured by offering adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your needs and pressing concerns as well as taking time to be in God’s presence.

The great thing about the prayer time routine is that it’s customizable to meet your requirements. Many people might only have just a few minutes while others might have a half an time or even more. It’s important to make it a consistent part of your daily routine. And if you miss the occasional day or two do not fret! Get back on track the following day.

An everyday prayer practice is a wonderful opportunity to begin your new year off with a fresh belief in the purpose of your life and a connection with the divine. It’s a powerful way to start your day, keeping your eyes to the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.

Another way to increase your prayer practice is to make it more engaging. Instead of just reciting words, try to engage with God at a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to visualize the scenes by the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and place yourself in their shoes. This can make your time in prayer more personal and meaningful.

It is also possible to incorporate various forms in your prayer day-to-day routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even journaling your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add variety to your spiritual routine.

One of the most effective ways to remain focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing the practice with other people. Find an accountability partner either a close friend or family member who will be checking in with you and help you to stick to your daily routine. They could even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.

The goal of a regular prayer routine is to deepen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions with His will. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict guidelines, but rather being deliberate and consistent in your spiritual life. Therefore, make the effort to find a prayer routine that you enjoy and make it a priority in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
