This is where the creation of the habit of praying comes into. It helps us establish a structure and accountability to ensure we’re connected to God on a regularly.
So, how do you begin? First, you must decide which time of the day works best for you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer, and others prefer to pray at night before getting to bed. Experiment and see what works best for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time for prayer, you can start to build your routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayer:
Begin by talking to God to ask for his presence as you read and meditate.
Take a chapter from the Bible and reflect on it for a while. It can be done by reading the passage three to four times or by listing the things it says about yourself or examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to make.
Your prayer should be structured by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your urgent needs and concerns and then take time to be in God’s presence.
The best thing about a prayer routine is that it’s customizable to fit your needs. Many people might only have just a few minutes while others might have an hour or more. The key is making it a consistent part of your routine. If you fall off a day or two do not fret! You can get back on track for the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is an excellent way to start the new year with a new feeling of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by placing your attention upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer practice is to make it more interactive. Instead of simply reciting phrases, try engaging with God at a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to picture the scenes described by the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character, and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
It is also possible to incorporate different forms of prayer into your routine. For example, try a silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing your prayers. This will prevent your prayer practice from becoming repetitive and provide some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to remain engaged and focused on your daily prayer routine is sharing the practice with others. Find an accountability partner, a family member or friend member who will be checking in with you and help you to stick to your daily routine. They can even be a part of your prayers and share their own experiences.
The goal of a regular prayer routine is to strengthen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line to His plan. It’s not about perfection or adhering to an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your daily spiritual practice. So, take the time to discover a prayer practice that is a good fit for you and make it a priority within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed by the difference it can make in your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
