The most challenging aspect of praying is to make it a regular element of our daily life. With a bit of planning and effort it is possible to create your own prayer routine that is suitable for you and your time. And the most appealing part is that you can customize it to match your own personality and religious tradition.
Life can be busy and it’s easy for prayer to slide off the priority list. Like everything else worth having, it takes dedication and discipline. That’s where developing an effective prayer schedule comes in. It gives an order and accountability to ensure that we’re connecting with the divine on a regular basis.
So, how do you begin? It’s the first thing to do is figure out what time of day is the most suitable time to pray. Some people like to start their day by praying, while others prefer to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Experiment and see what works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray, you can start building your daily routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayer:
Begin by approaching God to ask for his presence as you read and meditate.
Read a passage from the Bible and meditate on it. This can be accomplished by reading the passage three to four times, or writing down anything it tells you about yourself, the examples you can follow, instructions to follow or promises to claim.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your immediate needs and worries and then take time to enjoy God’s presence.
The beauty of praying is that it can be adapted to meet your requirements. Many people might only have some minutes and others could be able to devote a whole hours or longer. It’s important making it a constant part of your daily routine. If you fall off the occasional day or two, don’t sweat it! You can get back on track the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is a wonderful method to begin this new year feeling a renewed belief in the purpose of your life and a feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful method to start your day, keeping your eyes on the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plan.
Another method to improve your prayer routine is to make it more engaging. Instead of just reciting phrases, try engaging with God in a deeper way. Try using your imagination to imagine the scenes that are described in the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and put yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating different forms prayers into your daily routine. For example, try silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming repetitive and provide the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the best ways to stay engaged and focused on your prayer practice is by sharing your practice with others. Find an accountability partner, a friend or family member who can check in with you and help you to adhere to your routine. They can even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of a regular prayer routine is to strengthen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions to His plan. It’s not about perfection or following an unwritten set of guidelines, but rather being consistent and deliberate in your spiritual life. Therefore, make the effort to create a routine of prayer that you enjoy and incorporate it in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed by the difference it can make on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
