So, how do you get started? The first step is to decide the time of day that is the most suitable time to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer and others prefer to pray at night before getting to bed. Test and see what works for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayers:
Begin by approaching God, ask for his blessing as you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and reflect on it for a while. It can be done by reading it three or four times, or listing the things it says about yourself, guidelines to obey , or promises to claim.
Your prayer should be structured by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Pray for your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to enjoy God’s presence.
The beauty of praying is that it’s customizable to fit your needs. Many people might only have just a few minutes while others might have a half an hour or more. It’s important to make it a consistent part of your daily routine. If you fall off a day or two do not fret! You can get back on track for the next day.
A daily prayer practice is an excellent method to begin the new year with a fresh feeling of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s an effective way to start your day, keeping your eyes on the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned in accordance with His plan.
Another way to increase your prayer time is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of just reciting words, try to engage with God on a deeper level. Try using your imagination to visualize the scenes in the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters, and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating different types prayers into your routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing down your prayers. This will prevent your prayer practice from becoming monotonous and add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the most effective methods to keep yourself engaged and focused on your daily prayers is sharing the practice with others. Find an accountability partner either a close friend or family member who will check in with you and encourage you to adhere to your daily routine. They can even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of a daily prayer practice is to increase your connection with God and align your thoughts and actions with His will. It’s not about achieving perfection or following a strict set of rules, it’s about being intentional and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. So, take the time to find a prayer routine that you enjoy and set it as a priority in your daily life.
