Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayer slip down on the list of priorities. However, just like everything other thing worth being a part of, it requires dedication and discipline. This is where establishing the habit of praying comes into. It provides structure and accountability to ensure that we’re connected to God on a a regular basis.
How do you start? It’s the first thing to do is decide the time of day that is most conducive to you to pray. Some people like to start their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Try it out and discover what works best for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time for prayer then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:
Begin by approaching God to ask for his blessing as you read and meditate.
Go through a section of the Bible and meditate on the passage. It can be done by reading the passage three to four times or by listing anything it tells you about yourself, guidelines to obey , or promises to make.
Make your prayer a ritual by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Make a prayer for your immediate needs and worries as well as taking time to be in God’s presence.
The great thing about a prayer routine is that it’s customizable to meet your requirements. Some people may only have some minutes and others could be able to devote a whole hours or longer. The key is to make it a consistent element of your day-to-day routine. If you don’t make it through the occasional day or two, don’t sweat it! Get back on track for the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is an excellent way to start this new year feeling a renewed belief in the purpose of your life and a connection with the divine. It’s a powerful method to start your day, placing your attention upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned in accordance with His plan.
Another way to enhance your prayer practice is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of just reciting words, you should try to connect with God in a deeper way. Use your imagination and try to picture the scenes described by the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters, and put yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.
It is also possible to incorporate various forms in your prayer daily routine. For example, try a silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing your prayers. This can keep your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to stay engaged and focused on your daily prayer routine is sharing the practice with others. Find a partner in accountability, a family member or friend member who will be checking in with you and encourage you to adhere to your schedule. They can even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.
Rememberthat the purpose of a daily prayer practice is to strengthen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned with His will. It’s not about perfection or adhering to an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your spiritual life.
