The most difficult aspect of praying is making it a consistent part of our life. But with a little time and planning it is possible to create an effective prayer schedule that works for you and your schedule. The best part is, you can customize the ritual to suit your personal preferences and religious tradition.

Let’s be real, life can be hectic and it’s easy for prayer to slide off the priority list. But just like anything other thing worth having, it requires effort and discipline. This is where establishing a prayer routine comes in. It provides structure and accountability to make sure we are connected to God on a a regular basis.

How do you begin? First, you must figure out which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray before going to getting to bed. Test and see what works best for you.

After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time for prayer, you can start building your daily routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayer:

Begin by talking to God, ask for his help while you read and pray.

Take a chapter from the Bible and meditate on it for a while. It can be done by reading it three to four times, or listing everything it reveals about yourself or the examples you can follow, instructions to follow or promises to claim.

Make your prayer a ritual by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Prayerfully address your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to sit in the presence of God.

The great thing about a prayer routine is that it is customizable to fit your needs. Some people may only have a few minutes to spare while others might have an time or even more. The trick is that you make this a consistent part of your daily routine. And if you miss a day or two, don’t sweat it! Get back on track the following day.

The practice of daily prayer is a wonderful opportunity to begin the new year with a fresh sense of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by placing your attention to the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.

Another way to increase your prayer routine is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of reciting the words, try to engage with God in a deeper way. Try using your imagination to visualize the scenes by the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and place yourself in their position. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.

You can also try incorporating various forms of prayer into your routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even journaling your prayers. This will keep your prayer practice from becoming monotonous and add variety to your spiritual routine.

One of the best ways to stay motivated and on track with your daily prayer routine is sharing it with other people. Find a partner in accountability, a family member or friend member who can check in with you and help you to stick to your schedule. They may even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.

The goal of a daily prayer practice is to strengthen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line with His will. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict rules, it’s about being deliberate and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. Take the time to create a routine of prayer that works for you and make it a priority in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed at the impact it has for your spiritual development as well as overall wellbeing.
