Life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayers get lost on the list of priorities. But just like anything other thing worth having, it takes commitment and discipline. This is where the creation of an effective prayer schedule comes in. It helps us establish a the structure and accountability needed to ensure that we’re in contact with God on a an ongoing basis.
So, how do you start? The first step is to decide what time of day is most conducive to you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray before going to bed. Test and see what works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray You can begin building your daily routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:
Begin by approaching God to ask for his presence as you read and meditate.
Take a chapter from the Bible and meditate on the passage. This can be accomplished by reading it three or four times or by listing everything it reveals about yourself, examples to follow, commands to follow or promises to claim.
Make your prayer a ritual by offering adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Pray for your urgent needs and concerns and then take time to be in God’s presence.
The best thing about a prayer routine is that it is customizable to fit your needs. Many people might only have a few minutes to spare while others might be able to devote a whole hours or longer. The key is to make it a regular element of your day-to-day routine. If you fall off a day or two do not fret! Just get back on track the following day.
A daily prayer practice is an excellent way to start your new year off with a renewed feeling of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s an effective way to begin your day by placing your attention upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.
Another way to increase your prayer time is to make it more interactive. Instead of just reciting phrases, try engaging with God on a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to picture the scenes described within the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character, and put yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.
You can also try incorporating different forms of prayer into your daily routine. For example, try silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing down your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the most effective ways to remain focused and in line with your daily prayers is sharing it with others. Find a accountability partner, a friend or family member who will be checking in with you and help you to stick to your routine. They can even join you in prayer and share their personal experiences.
Remember, the goal of a daily prayer practice is to deepen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned in accordance with His plans. It’s not about achieving perfection or adhering to an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your life of faith. Take the time to discover a prayer practice that works for you and set it as a priority in your daily life. You’ll be amazed at how much difference it makes on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
