So, how do you begin? It’s the first thing to do is figure out which time of the day works best for you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer and others prefer to pray at night before going to bed. Experiment and see what works best for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayer:
Begin by talking to God and asking for his blessing while you read and pray.
Go through a section of the Bible and reflect on it. It can be done by reading it three or four times or by listing everything it reveals about yourself or examples to follow, commands to obey , or promises to claim.
Make your prayer a ritual by making confession, adoration as well as petition and thanksgiving. Pray for your needs and pressing concerns, and take time to be in God’s presence.
The great thing about the prayer time routine is that it is customizable to meet your requirements. Many people might only have just a few minutes and others could be able to devote a whole time or even more. The key is making it a consistent part of your daily routine. And if you miss the occasional day or two, don’t sweat it! You can get back on track the following day.
A daily prayer practice is a wonderful way to start this new year feeling a renewed sense of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s a powerful method to start your day, keeping your eyes upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plan.
Another way to enhance your prayer routine is to make it more engaging. Instead of just reciting phrases, try engaging with God on a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to visualize the scenes in the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This will make your prayer time more meaningful and personal.
You can also try incorporating different forms in your prayer daily routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even journaling your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to remain focused and in line with your daily prayers is sharing your practice with others. Find an accountability partner, a friend or family member who will be checking in with you and help you to adhere to your daily routine. They can even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
The goal of a daily prayer practice is to increase your connection with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line to His plan. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict guidelines, but rather being deliberate and consistent in your life of faith.
