This is where the creation of the habit of praying comes into. It helps us establish a the structure and accountability needed to ensure that we’re connecting with the divine on regularly.
So, how do you get started? It’s the first thing to do is figure out which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray before going to bed. Try it out and discover what works best for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:
Begin by addressing God and asking for his presence as you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and meditate on the passage. This can be accomplished by reading it three to four times, or listing the things it says about yourself, the examples you can follow, instructions to follow or promises to claim.
Your prayer should be structured by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Pray for your needs and pressing concerns, and take time to sit in the presence of God.
The great thing about a prayer routine is that it is customizable to fit your needs. Some people may only have just a few minutes and others could have a half an hours or longer. The trick is that you make this a regular element of your day-to-day routine. If you don’t make it through the occasional day or two, don’t sweat it! Just get back on track the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is an excellent method to begin your new year off with a fresh belief in the purpose of your life and a spiritual connection with God. It’s an effective way to start your day, placing your attention on the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned in accordance with His plan.
Another way to enhance your prayer routine is to make it more interactive. Instead of simply reciting words, try to engage with God at a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to picture the scenes described in the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and place yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating different types in your prayer daily routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the most effective ways to remain focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing your practice with others. Find a accountability partner either a close friend or family member who can check in with you and encourage you to keep to your routine. They could even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of daily prayer is to strengthen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions with His will. It’s not about perfection or following an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your daily spiritual practice. Take the time to create a routine of prayer that works for you and set it as a priority in your day-to-day life.
