Are you willing to take your spiritual life to the highest level? One of the most effective ways to accomplish this is to establish a regular prayer routine.
Think of it as your spiritual exercise, similar to like hitting the gym to stay fit, regular prayer keeps your soul healthy and in tune with the Divine.
The most difficult aspect of prayer is making it a constant part of our daily lives. However, with a amount of planning and effort it is possible to create an effective prayer schedule that works for you and your time. The best part is, you are able to modify it to fit your personality and religious tradition.
Life can be hectic and it’s easy to let prayer get lost on the priority list. However, just like everything else worth having, it takes dedication and discipline. This is where establishing the habit of praying comes into. It gives an order and accountability to make sure we are in contact with God on a a regular basis.
So, how do you begin? The first step is to decide the time of day that is the most suitable time to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer, while others prefer to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Test and see what works for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray, you can start building your daily routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for prayer in the morning:
Begin by talking to God, ask for his presence as you read and pray.
Take a chapter from the Bible and reflect on it. This can be accomplished by reading it three to four times or by listing the things it says about yourself, the examples you can follow, instructions to follow or promises to claim.
Make your prayer a ritual by offering adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Pray for your immediate needs and worries and then take time to sit in the presence of God.
The great thing about praying is that it can be adapted to meet your requirements. Some people may only have just a few minutes while others might be able to devote a whole hour or more. The trick is that you make this a consistent part of your routine. If you don’t make it through a day or two do not fret! You can get back on track for the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a great way to start your new year off with a new feeling of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by placing your attention on the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.
Another method to improve your prayer routine is to make it more interactive. Instead of just reciting words, try to engage with God on a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described by the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.
You can also try incorporating various forms of prayer into your day-to-day routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing down your prayers. This will keep your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to stay focused and in line with your prayer practice is by sharing it with other people. Find a accountability partner, a friend or family member who can check in with you and encourage you to adhere to your schedule. They may even join you in prayer and share their personal experiences.
Remember, the goal of a daily prayer practice is to increase your connection with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line with His will. It’s not about achieving perfection or adhering to a strict set of guidelines, but rather being consistent and deliberate in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to find a prayer routine that works for you and set it as a priority in your daily life. You’ll be amazed at how much difference it makes on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
