It’s true that life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayer get lost on the priority list. But just like anything other thing worth having, it takes dedication and discipline. This is where establishing a prayer routine comes in. It helps us establish a structure and accountability to make sure we are connecting with the divine on regularly.
How do you start? The first step is to decide which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day by praying, while others find it easier to pray before going to bed. Try it out and discover which method works best for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray then you can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayer:
Begin by talking to God to ask for his presence as you read and pray.
Take a chapter from the Bible and then meditate on it. This can be done by reading it three to four times or by listing anything it tells you about yourself, or guidelines to follow or promises to keep.
Structure your prayer by offering adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your immediate needs and worries as well as taking time to be in God’s presence.
The best thing about the prayer time routine is that it is customizable to suit your needs. For some, you may have only a few minutes to spare, while others may have an time or even more. The key is making it a consistent part of your daily routine. And if you miss one or two days, don’t sweat it! Get back on track for the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is a great method to begin this new year feeling a renewed sense of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s a powerful method to start your day, placing your attention upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer routine is to make it more engaging. Instead of just reciting words, try to engage with God in a deeper way. Make use of your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters, and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
You can also try incorporating different types in your prayer daily routine. For example, try a silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even journaling your prayers. This will keep your prayer practice from becoming repetitive and provide some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the most effective methods to keep yourself focused and in line with your prayer practice is by sharing it with others. Find an accountability partner, a friend or family member who can check in with you and help you to keep to your daily routine. They may even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
The goal of a daily prayer practice is to increase your connection with God and align your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfection or adhering to an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. So, take the time to create a routine of prayer that you enjoy and make it a priority within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed by how much difference it makes for your spiritual development and overall health.
