The most difficult aspect of praying is making it a consistent part of our life. With a time and planning it is possible to create an effective prayer schedule that works for you and your schedule. The most appealing part is that you can customize it to match your own personality and your spiritual beliefs.
Life can be hectic and it’s easy to let prayers slide off the priority list. Like everything else that’s worth having, it requires dedication and discipline. This is where establishing the habit of praying comes into. It gives structure and accountability to make sure we are in contact with God on a an ongoing basis.
So, how do you start? The first step is to determine the time of day that is the most suitable time to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer, and others prefer to pray at night before getting to bed. Experiment and see which method works best for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for prayer in the morning:
Begin by talking to God and asking for his blessing while you read and pray.
Take a chapter from the Bible and then meditate on the passage. This can be done by reading it three or four times, or listing anything it tells you about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to follow or promises to claim.
Your prayer should be structured by praying for adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Pray for your needs and pressing concerns, and take time to enjoy God’s presence.
The best thing about a prayer routine is that it is customizable to fit your needs. Some people may only have just a few minutes while others might have an hours or longer. The key is to make it a constant part of your daily routine. If you fall off a day or two, don’t sweat it! Just get back on track the following day.
The practice of daily prayer is an excellent method to begin this new year feeling a fresh belief in the purpose of your life and a connection with the divine. It’s a powerful way to start your day, placing your attention on the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer practice is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting phrases, try engaging with God on a deeper level. Try using your imagination to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and put yourself in their shoes. This can make your time in prayer more meaningful and personal.
It is also possible to incorporate different forms prayers into your daily routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing your prayers. This will prevent your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the most effective methods to keep yourself engaged and focused on your daily prayers is sharing the practice with other people. Find a accountability partner, a friend or family member who will be checking in with you and encourage you to adhere to your schedule. They may even be a part of your prayers and share their own experiences.
The goal of a regular prayer routine is to deepen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned to His plan. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your daily spiritual practice. Therefore, make the effort to create a routine of prayer that you enjoy and set it as a priority in your daily life. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make on your spiritual growth and overall health.
