Life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayer get lost on the list of priorities. However, just like everything other thing worth having, it requires dedication and discipline. This is where establishing an effective prayer schedule comes in. It helps us establish a an order and accountability to ensure we’re connecting with the divine on regularly.
So, how do you start? It’s the first thing to do is figure out which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some people like to start their day with prayer while others prefer to pray at night before getting to bed. Try it out and discover which method works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:
Begin by addressing God to ask for his blessing as you read and meditate.
Read a passage from the Bible and reflect on it. This can be done by reading it three to four times or by listing everything it reveals about yourself or the examples you can follow, instructions to obey or promises to make.
Structure your prayer by offering adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your urgent needs and concerns as well as taking time to enjoy God’s presence.
The beauty of a prayer routine is that it is customizable to fit your needs. For some, you may have only a few minutes to spare and others could be able to devote a whole time or even more. The trick is that you make this a regular element of your day-to-day routine. And if you miss a day or two do not fret! Just get back on track the following day.
An everyday prayer practice is an excellent way to start your new year off with a fresh sense of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s an effective way to begin your day by placing your attention on the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions to His plans.
Another way to increase your prayer time is to make it more interactive. Instead of simply reciting phrases, try engaging with God in a deeper way. Use your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described in the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and place yourself in their shoes. This can make your time in prayer more personal and meaningful.
It is also possible to incorporate different forms in your prayer daily routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing your prayers. This can keep your prayer practice from becoming monotonous and add variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to stay motivated and on track with your prayer practice is by sharing it with other people. Find an accountability partner either a close friend or family member who can check on you regularly and help you to keep to your schedule. They could even join you in prayer and share their personal experiences.
Rememberthat the purpose of a daily prayer practice is to increase your connection with God and align your thoughts and actions to His plan. It’s not about achieving perfection or adhering to an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being deliberate and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. So, take the time to create a routine of prayer that is a good fit for you and set it as a priority in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed by the impact it has for your spiritual development as well as overall wellbeing.
