Let’s be real, life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayer slide off the list of priorities. Like everything else worth having, it requires effort and discipline. This is where establishing the habit of praying comes into. It provides an order and accountability to ensure that we’re connected to God on a regularly.

How do you get started? The first step is to determine the time of day that is the most suitable time to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray before going to getting to bed. Test and see which method works best for you.

After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time for prayer then you can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:

Begin by addressing God and asking for his presence as you read and meditate.

Go through a section of the Bible and meditate on it. This can be accomplished by reading the passage three to four times or by listing everything it reveals about yourself, guidelines to follow or promises to keep.

Your prayer should be structured by offering adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Prayerfully address your urgent needs and concerns and then take time to sit in the presence of God.

The great thing about the prayer time routine is that it’s customizable to fit your needs. Many people might only have a few minutes to spare while others might have an time or even more. The trick is that you make this a consistent part of your routine. If you fall off a day or two do not fret! You can get back on track the next day.

A daily prayer practice is a great way to start the new year with a new sense of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by placing your attention to the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.

Another method to improve your prayer time is to create a more interactive. Instead of reciting the words, you should try to connect with God at a deeper level. Try using your imagination to imagine the scenes that are described in the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and place yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This will make your prayer time more meaningful and personal.

Try incorporating different types in your prayer daily routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing down your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.

One of the most effective ways to remain engaged and focused on your prayer practice is by sharing your practice with other people. Find an accountability partner, a friend or family member who will check in with you and encourage you to adhere to your schedule. They can even join you in prayer and share their own experiences.

The goal of daily prayer is to increase your connection with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned with His will. It’s not about perfectionism or following the strict guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. Take the time to discover a prayer practice that is a good fit for you and incorporate it within your everyday life.
